because summers are boring...

Because Summers are boring...
I have made a list of things that will make it less boring.

Take up some sort of new exercise (yoga, running, ballet, mountain biking...)

Start journalling

R E A D - The Book of Mormon, Little Women, The Lunar Chronicles, Heartless, Wildwood, The Silmarillion, The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, Betsy Tacy and Tib, and Archie Comics are some of my favorites.

Learn about something new- Get a book about it and do some research. I love teaching myself about new things. Once when I was 13 I went to the library and checked out a book called: "Pregnancy for Dummies" because I want to be a Labor and Delivery nurse. I learned more about what I needed to know that week in the Summer reading that book than an entire school year of taking a Child Development class! Although my parents were a little concerned when they first saw me reading it...

Go on picnics

Watch movies- My favorite movies are: Elizabethtown, Marie Antionette, Pride and Prejudice, all 3 of The Hobbit movies and all 3 of the Lord of the Rings movies. Our family also loves all the Mission Impossible movies, Knight and Day, Mickey Blue Eyes, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and 13 going on 30, to name a few.

Enjoy your last few weeks of Summer!

The Auction

Right now we are living in a rental home in Chapel Hill NC.
But soon we plan on building a home just outside Chapel Hill in a more rural area.
About 15-20 minutes from the lot where we will be building is an auction house that is open on Fridays for livestock auctions.
We got to go last week with our friends the Mangums and it was a lot of fun.
We all put our wranglers and boots back on and it felt like home.

I've been terribly homesick for my home in New Mexico.

I'm so happy here- I've made good friends and I love the trees and fun places, but the ranch will always be tugging at my heart.

The home I had in New Mexico was so good to me,
I was looking back at old pictures and I remembered the good times we had there.

I hope that somewhere down the road, the ranch becomes a part of my life again. But for now, I'll be happy in North Carolina.

Happy Pioneer Day!

Today is Pioneer Day!
(For Mormons)
It's a day that we celebrate the Mormon pioneers who crossed the plains to get to Utah.
They did, and now our church has grown so much, and it continues to grow!
I'm so proud of my pioneer heritage and celebrate this holiday with joy!

Temple Trip!

Last week my family and I went on a day trip to Columbia South Carolina to go to the temple!
I was so excited to go because we don't have an open lds temple in North Carolina, we have one that is being renovated though!
So we left the house at around 10:00 am, stopped for lunch in Charlotte NC, and made it to Columbia at around 2:00 pm.
My parents went in for a session first while me and my siblings (including Angus) hung out outside until they were finished.
They got out at around 7:20 pm and me and Jane and Oliver got to go inside and do some work ourselves.
It was really awesome. I love being in the temple- it's such a sacred place and I feel very close to God within its walls.

When we got out and were ready to go get some dinner and head home, we found that the battery was dead in our car (this was about 8:15 pm). Apparently someone (I won't name any names) left the keys in the car while we were waiting for our parents in the temple so that the AC could stay on...
Well, we hung out in the parking lot of the temple for a couple of hours, missed dinner, and rolled home at around 2:00 am.

But I'm still so grateful that we got to go to the temple and feel the blessings we received from serving there. I can't wait till next month when we plan on doing it again!
Hopefully the battery won't die this time.

Taugata

While I was in Samoa I made a friend.
She's a beautiful young woman I met at church- and she's amazing at English, so she helped translate a lot of our Sunday school class.
Her name is Taugata, isn't she darling?

Taugata is very warm and friendly and compassionate.
She is a beautiful dancer, a wonderful English speaker, and a very lovely friend.

When we parted, it was very sad. I miss her so so much!
But I promised her I would see her again- maybe by the time I go to Samoa I'll have a 16 year old of my own, and she'll have one too.
Then we'll have a lot to catch up on.

Samoa!

So I went to Samoa!

It was my first time out of the country and so cool.
I went for an HEFY trip.
HEFY stands for Humanitarian Experience For Youth.
I loved it, it was one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life, I got so homesick.
But I learned so much and had some awesome experiences.

And I made some really great friends!

We built a house for a family!
It wasn't really a house- they're called fales.
It's pretty much an opened up house.

I loved it so much and recommend it to anyone who wants to go!

sheesh!

So I haven't posted in over a month...
It's been a busy busy Summer.
First of all, we moved across the country, that was kind of a big deal.
Then, we unpacked and unpacked and unpacked for a little while.
Then, I went to Samoa.
That story will be shared later this week.
And then me and Jane went to Girls Camp- It's a mormon thing. But not exclusive to non-mormons!
Pretty much we go as a ward into the mountains and spend a week camping up there together.
We do lots of activities (spiritual and not spiritual), we eat lots of unhealthy food, and we stay up all night long.
It was really fun this year because I got to know all of the girls in our new ward which was awesome.
And to top it all off, I have to finish my BYU Independent Study classes in a month before school begins in August.
So, yes, it's been real.
I just want to take a break, you know?
